About this worksheet
These are subtraction facts written left to right with a box after the equal sign for the answer. Every number on the sheet is 10 or less, and some take away 0.
With no pictures to count, a child can count back from the first number, or count up from the smaller number to the bigger one. Both lead to the same answer, and knowing two ways is how facts start to stick.
A worked example
5 - 2 =
- Start at 5.
- Count back 2, one finger for each: 4, 3.
- You stopped at 3. Write 3 in the box.
Answer: 5 - 2 = 3
The common mistake
What it looks like: Adding the numbers instead of subtracting: 7 for 5 - 2.
Why it happens: Most early facts a child sees are addition, and a quick glance misses the minus sign.
How to fix it: Have the child read the problem aloud with the sign, "5 take away 2", before writing anything.
Ten minutes a day, on paper. We plan what comes next.
A printed page and a pencil. No screen, no login for your child. Snap a photo when they’re done: AI scores it, and what they missed comes back on the sheets that follow.
