About this worksheet
Each question has its own graph with three rows: stars, circles and squares, each with 1 to 5 pictures. The child checks the box beside the shape with the most and writes how many it has in the box to the left of the graph.
Finding the most means comparing three numbers. On a picture graph the longest row has the most, so a child can see the answer and then check it by counting.
A worked example
Stars: 1. Circles: 2. Squares: 4. Which has the most?
- Count each row: stars 1, circles 2, squares 4.
- Look for the biggest number: 4.
- 4 is the squares row, which is also the longest.
- Check the box beside Squares, and write 4 in the box.
Answer: Squares checked, 4
The common mistake
What it looks like: Checking the longest-looking row without counting.
Why it happens: Shapes are different widths, so a row of 4 circles can look longer than a row of 4 squares.
How to fix it: Count every row before checking a box. The number the child writes in the box shows whether they counted.
