About this worksheet
Each question is an addition fact within 10 with its own number line from 0 to 10. The child starts at the first number, draws one hop for each number being added, and writes the number they land on.
A number line shows addition as moving forward. It is a step past counting pictures, and the same picture helps later with subtraction, which is hopping back.
A worked example
3 + 4 = ?
- Find 3 on the number line and put the pencil there.
- Draw 4 hops forward, counting each one: 1, 2, 3, 4.
- You land on 7.
- Write 7 in the box.
Answer: 3 + 4 = 7
The common mistake
What it looks like: Counting the starting number as the first hop, so 3 + 4 lands on 6.
Why it happens: The child says "one" while still on the 3, before actually moving.
How to fix it: A hop is a jump from one number to the next. Start with the pencil on 3 and say "one" only as you land on 4.
