About this worksheet
Division facts are the reverse of the times tables. 42 ÷ 6 asks "what times 6 makes 42?", so a child who knows 7 × 6 = 42 knows the answer is 7.
Children who don't know the fact yet can skip-count by the divisor and count the skips. Practicing both ways builds the facts into memory.
A worked example
42 ÷ 6 = ?
- Read it as a missing factor: ? × 6 = 42.
- Find the fact that fits: 7 × 6 = 42.
- Or skip-count by 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42. That is 7 skips.
- Write 7.
Answer: 42 ÷ 6 = 7
The common mistake
What it looks like: Using a nearby fact that is not quite right, like answering 48 ÷ 6 with 7.
Why it happens: Facts in the 6, 7 and 8 tables are close together and easy to swap.
How to fix it: Multiply back to check: 7 × 6 is 42, not 48, so try one more group: 8 × 6 = 48.
