10 questions, one page, US Letter. Print it and do it on paper.
On the sheet: Area is the number of square units it takes to cover a shape. Multiply the length by the width. Write the answer in square units: if the sides are in inches, the area is in square inches (in²), because you multiplied inches by inches.

About this worksheet
Area is how many unit squares it takes to cover a shape. A rectangle 6 cm long and 4 cm wide is covered by 4 rows of 6 squares, so its area is 24 square centimeters.
That is why area is length × width, and why the answer is in square units: cm², in², ft².
A worked example
A rectangle is 6 cm long and 4 cm wide. What is its area?
- Read the two side lengths: 6 cm and 4 cm.
- Area is length × width: 6 × 4.
- 6 × 4 = 24.
- Write the unit as square centimeters: 24 cm².
Answer: 24 cm²
The common mistake
What it looks like: Adding the sides instead of multiplying: 6 + 4 + 6 + 4 = 20. That is the perimeter, not the area.
Why it happens: Perimeter and area are taught close together, and both start from the same two numbers.
How to fix it: Ask what is being measured: the edge (perimeter, add) or the inside (area, multiply). Sketch the rows of squares if unsure.
