About this worksheet
Second graders skip-count by 5s, 10s and 100s within 1,000. It is the counting behind telling time, counting money and adding tens in your head.
Each question shows two numbers. The difference between them is the jump, and one more jump of the same size gives the answer. The tricky ones cross a hundred, like 595, 600, 605.
A worked example
470, 475, ___
- Find the jump: 475 − 470 = 5.
- Do one more jump of 5: 475 + 5 = 480.
Answer: 480
The common mistake
What it looks like: Writing 5100 after 595, 600, or 700 after 690, 695.
Why it happens: The child adds the jump to the last digits only and doesn't carry into the hundreds.
How to fix it: Say the numbers aloud: "six ninety, six ninety-five, seven hundred." When the tens and ones reach 100, the hundreds digit goes up by one.
