About this worksheet
Words like could, would and should are among the most used in children's writing, and they don't spell the way they sound.
Copying a word, covering it, writing it from memory and then checking is how a spelling sticks: the child has to recall it, not just copy it.
A worked example
beautiful
- Copy the word and draw lines between its syllables: beau / ti / ful.
- Highlight the part that doesn't sound the way it looks: "beau" sounds like "byoo".
- Fold the page to cover the word, write it from memory, then unfold and check.
Answer: beautiful
The common mistake
What it looks like: Writing "cud" for could, or "evry" for every.
Why it happens: The child spells the word the way it sounds, and these words have letters that are silent or hidden.
How to fix it: Highlight the tricky letters while copying (the l in could, the middle e in every), so they get remembered on purpose.
Ten minutes a day, on paper. We plan what comes next.
A printed page and a pencil. No screen, no login for your child. Snap a photo when they’re done: AI scores it, and what they missed comes back on the sheets that follow.
