About this worksheet
Comparing lengths directly, side by side from the same starting line, is where measurement begins in first grade.
Each question asks for longer or shorter, so the child has to read it, not just pick the bigger bar every time.
A worked example
Which bar is longer, A or B?
- Look at where both bars start.
- Look at where each one ends.
- B ends further along, so circle B.
Answer: B
The common mistake
What it looks like: Circling the longer bar when the question asks for the shorter one.
Why it happens: After a few "longer" questions, the child stops reading and picks the bigger bar.
How to fix it: Read the question aloud and put a finger under the word longer or shorter before looking at the bars.
Ten minutes a day, on paper. We plan what comes next.
A printed page and a pencil. No screen, no login for your child. Snap a photo when they’re done: AI scores it, and what they missed comes back on the sheets that follow.
