About this worksheet
A fraction out of 100 can be written as a decimal with two digits after the point: 46/100 is 0.46, read as forty-six hundredths.
The first digit after the point is tenths and the second is hundredths. When the numerator is less than 10, a zero holds the tenths place: 3/100 is 0.03.
A worked example
58/100 = ?
- The denominator is 100, so the decimal has two digits after the point.
- Write the numerator in those two places.
Answer: 58/100 = 0.58
The common mistake
What it looks like: Leaving out the zero for a small numerator: writing 3/100 as 0.3.
Why it happens: The child writes the numerator straight after the point, which works for 46/100 but not for 3/100.
How to fix it: Hundredths always take two places. Read it aloud: 0.3 is three tenths, which is 30/100, not 3/100.
